How to wash hands

By: Mölnlycke Health Care, December 22 2011Posted in: Surgical product how-tos

Hands are a source of and vehicle for transmitting microorganisms. An effective hand hygiene regimen can reduce the infection rate.1

An effective hand disinfectant is fast acting, persistent and skin friendly to avoid skin irritation. Therefore, it should be a product that has an immediate effect plus a residual active ingredient, such as chlorhexidine that has been shown to have up to six hours activity.

Hand disinfectant also needs to be skin friendly. Hands can easily be damaged because healthcare personnel need to use antiseptics approximately 15-20 times during one day, unless the product is proven to be kind to skin.
