You use them almost every day: but how often do you stop to think about why drapes and gowns are so important? Below, Nigel Braithwaite, UK National Clinical Training Manager, for Mölnlycke Health Care, takes us through a series of short, thought-provoking videos that provide insight into single-use drapes and gowns and their effectivness on the front line of infection prevention and control.
Why Drape or Gown?
Quite simply, drapes and gowns keep bugs at bay. Bacteria in the wrong place can cause SSIs and with more becoming resistant to antibiotics, it’s vital you choose the most effective method to keep them out: it’s a much better option than treating the consequences.
What criteria and considerations do you take into account when selecting an effective drape and gown system? Cost, comfort and availability all count; but some things can’t be compromised…
All drapes and gowns must comply with the Medical Device Directive. How can you tell if your drape and gown system is compliant to EN13795 for each and every use?
Repair patch or cover up
